Wellness Wednesday: Our Innate Curiosity

Happy Wellness Wednesday, friends!

I have made it a priority to take my practice to the lakefront of Chicago at sunrise every weekend. This past weekend, however, I came across a woman who politely excused herself for interrupting my practice to ask every question under the sun about yoga and what it means.

It was clear she has long lived life in pure anxiety but her willingness, vulnerability and curiosity is what inspired me most. As human creatures, we naturally are curious. When we recognize that we cannot develop further, we may feel the need to allow our innate curiosity to help guide us to the next expansion of our boundaries.

Infusing our life with a sense of adventure and change could bring not only new knowledge from new experiences, but also a deeper awareness of our values and how to simply adore the entity of the world around us. You may find that your sense of fascination may bring a sense of understanding and awareness to our values and life.

It is easy for us to do what is safe and comfortable just to get through the day, however, our curiosity can change our current view of the world. When we step beyond the boundaries we tend to set for ourselves, we see that there is still so much yet to learn in life. If we let our curiosity guide us, we will learn so much more about our inner and outer worlds.

Wellness Wednesday: Inner Recharge

When we feel depleted from our state of vibrancy, this does not mean that we are lazy or unfit for the tasks in our lives; it simply means that we need to recharge our batteries and find a way of maintaining sustainability.

When we are experiencing this sensation of depletion, we can take an honest look at our patterns of thought, actions and feeling. They may give us a hint to the belief or behavior that may have misaligned with who we really are. However this exhaustion may not be caused internally. There may be people or situations in our life which may be draining our energy. Once we gain clarity on the root cause, we can better direct our flow of energy.

Later we may come to realize the reason we feel depleted has less to do with how much we are doing and more to do with the fact that in our heart, we would much rather be doing something else entirely different as the quality of our passions. Now that we have come to expose our deeper layers internally, we have the ability to acknowledge what our heart truly wants. It may be as subtle as meditation, or just a moment of inner silence to gain the clarity we need. When we know what we truly want to do, and honor that in all situations, we will find ourselves realigning to sustainability.

Wellness Wednesday: Core Avoidance

One night this past week as I ran the water for a shower after a long day the thought to turn on music to avoid my racing thoughts came to my mind. This made me come to realize sooner after how often we unconsciously avoid our center root as we think we benefit ourselves by filling the void with distraction.

It’s funny to think our lives is something we often avoid. It consists of everything we engage in and aids to distract us from looking at our lives. Experiencing our life internally means taking time each day to simply sit with ourselves. Many of us are so out of practice that the idea to have a moment to ourselves causes us to feel on edge.

Without a doubt it is uncomfortable to sit with ourselves at first is because when we do, we open ourselves to this inner voice of ours which might question the way we’re living or some of the choices we’re making. This voice may remind us of our inner yearnings and dreams we thought we had forgotten. But when we are already feeling so overwhelmed by our daily obligations and responsibilities, the idea of hearing this voice can be exhausting. But the voice’s reflections simply show is the connection to our authentic selves, and they are the very things that make our lives worth living. When we continually avoid connecting with our life, we risk losing out on the very purpose of our existence.

It may as feel as though we take back our power when we consciously decide to sit with the presence of our soul. It later becomes a ritual so much that we make less busy work for ourself, so that we can spend more time at the center root of our own life.

Wellness Wednesday: You Are Exactly Where You Are Meant To Be

As Buddha once said, “change is the only constant”. So even what we have learned to trust for consistency can surprise us at any moment and lead us in a downward spiral of anxiety. But if we remove fear from the equation without hesitation, we can devote our full attention to the dream that awaits us. Just like the continual state of growth nature presents, we are no different if we trust in the idea that we are exactly where we are suppose to be.

Each stage in our soul’s evolution paves for the next expression of our being. So rather than allowing our lives to be determined by fear of the unknown or attempting to avoid the risk of falling, we can learn to appreciate that sometimes we experience life fully when we are willing to trust and fall. And in doing this, we may just find that we already have the wings to fly.

When we believe that we are meant to be immersed in this moment at this given time, we step away from the universe’s safety net but as we continue forward, we may find ourselves revisiting the same issues. This may be frustrating as we feel we are not learning from our past difficulties but we must see we come from a higher, wiser place each time we are revisited.

We can track growth by identifying situations we have faced more than once and noting that each time we handled them a bit better. Whether or not we can see how our present situation is serving you or where it may lead, know that you are exactly where you are supposed to be. Trust that our soul knows where we’re headed even if we don’t.

Wellness Wednesday: Heart Over Head

At some point we each fall into the mindless momentum of daily life as a way to cope from the inconsistency our reality presents. While it may work temporarily, we will begin to notice how strong of barriers we had created on our inner self from our outer world.

It is important we remain receptive to the ebb and flow of life as we can never be exact what is to come. Most of us were born and raised to value our head over the heart. As a result, we place our own hearts below our heads in a sort of inner hierarchy of which we may not be conscious of. We are very physical people. We tend to listen and respond from the neck up, often leaving the rest of our bodies with little or no say in most matters. This is a physical habit, which sometimes feels as ingrained as the way we breathe or walk. However, with effort and awareness, we can shift the energy into our hearts, listening and responding from this much more resonant place.

Our brain thrives of structure and order of the world but we also need the wisdom of our own hearts if we wish to continue surviving at our fullest. When we listen from our heart, the rigid ness our brain holds then softens which enables us to perceive the interconnectedness beneath the order our brains create. We begin to understand that just as the heart underlies the brain, this interconnectedness underlies everything.
